Families

Medicaid is a medical assistance program that helps individuals and families with low-income and limited resources. To be eligible for family Medicaid programs, you must meet the program type and the rules for Utah residency, income and citizenship.

If you don’t qualify for another Medicaid program and do not have Medicare, you may qualify for Adult Expansion Medicaid. You may be eligible if you are a Utah resident between the ages of 19 and 64 whose income is below the monthly limit. For example, a family of four making $3,458 or less per month could qualify. You do not need to have dependent children for this program.

If you are a pregnant woman, you may qualify for full Medicaid coverage through the Pregnant Woman program. You will receive coverage from the time of your application, through pregnancy and 12 months postpartum. Children born to women on Medicaid in Utah can receive Medicaid through the month of their first birthday under the Child Under Age 1 program. To qualify, your income must be less than the monthly limit. For example, a family of four making $3,614 or less per month could qualify.

Children

Children 18 years and younger can receive Medicaid based on your income. The income limits for ages 0 to 5 are higher than for ages 6 to 18. A child doesn’t need to be living with a relative to receive Medicaid.

For children who do not have other health insurance and do not qualify for Medicaid, they may be eligible for CHIP. Depending on your income and family size, your children may qualify. For example, a family of four making $5,200 or less per month may be eligible. Once approved, CHIP covers well-child exams, immunizations, dental care, hearing and eye exams and more. Families can expect to have some out of pocket co-pays for services and doctor visits.
